Description

Customs clearance for imported vehicles is primarily carried out at the Dakar-Port Nord and Dakar-Port Sud customs offices, which are the only offices authorised to handle vehicle customs clearance procedures.

However, in certain exceptional cases, regional customs offices may be authorised to carry out customs clearance, in particular for:

  • vehicles cleared under the suspension of customs duties procedure;

  • vehicles belonging to large companies based in the regions;

  • damaged vehicles;

  • wrecked vehicles;

  • vehicles that are completely immobilised.

The cost depends on:

  • the FOB value of the vehicle;

  • the applicable freight charges;

  • the duties and taxes in force;

  • the category and specifications of the vehicle.

Required documents

  • Vehicle registration document;

  • Purchase invoice or equivalent document;

  • Owner’s identity document;

  • Bill of lading or transport document;

  • Customs declaration;

  • Any additional documents required by the customs authorities.

Steps in the procedure

  • Submission of the application to the relevant customs office.

  • Verification of documents and valuation of the vehicle by customs authorities.

  • Calculation of applicable duties and taxes.

  • Payment of customs duties and taxes.

  • Approval of customs clearance and issue of the documents required to put the vehicle on the road.
