4 April 2026: Customs officers awarded the Medal of Honour

On 4 April 2026, as part of the celebrations for National Independence Day, the Minister for Finance and the Budget presided over the ceremony to award the Customs Medal of Honour.

The ceremony took place at the premises of the Multi-purpose Fraud Investigation and Enforcement Unit (GPR) in Thiès.

Present at the ceremony were the Minister’s Technical Advisers, Mr Babacar Mbaye, Director-General of Customs, his Madagascan counterpart, Mr Antoine Randrianjafy, guest of honour at this year’s event, Mr Ibrahima Wade, Coordinator of the COJOJ, as well as the entire Customs Executive Committee.

The Customs Medal of Honour is awarded to officers with at least fifteen (15) years’ service or who have performed exceptional acts. This distinction recognises merit in the service of the nation.

In his address, the Minister highlighted the crucial role of Customs in mobilising resources, protecting the national economy and combating transnational organised crime. He congratulated the recipients and praised their integrity, their sense of duty and their constant commitment to serving the nation.

With a view to the 2026 Dakar Youth Olympic Games, the Minister welcomed the proactive measures taken by the Directorate-General of Customs to contribute to the success of this major international event.
